Here are all the details about IIT JAM Economics 2023 Guwahati Exam



IIT JAM Exam season has started with the opening of application portal from 7th September onwards. As mentioned earlier, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is the Organizing Institute for JAM 2023. The aspirants are giving the exams to get admission into the post graduate programs at IITs, IISc and NITs (Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Science and National Institutes of Technology). As mentioned, IIT JAM 2023 will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) to be conducted for 7 different test papers:

  1. Biotechnology (BT)

  2. Chemistry (CY)

  3. Economics (EN)

  4. Geology (GG)

  5. Mathematical Statistics (MS)

  6. Mathematics (MA)

  7. Physics (PH)



IIT JAM Economics is gaining more and more popularity not only among economics background student but also among non economics background students as well. IIT JAM is one of the most prestigious entrance because it is associated with the likes of IITs, IISc, NITs. IIT JAM Economics is on the list of almost every aspirants coming because of the introduction of IIT JAM Economics for admission into two year MSc Economics which is offered by IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee.




The history IIT JAM Economics started in 2021 with IISc. In 2021, IISc was the organizing institution and IIT JAM Economics Exam was conducted for the first time in that year. Whereas in 2022 IIT Roorkee was the organizing institution.

IIT JAM Economics 2023 - Important Highlights


  1. JAM 2023 is open to all nationals (Indian/Foreign) and there is no age restriction.

  2. Candidates may appear in ONE or TWO Test Paper(s).

  3. Candidates qualifying in JAM 2023 are eligible to apply for admission to over 3000 seats in IITs for the academic year 2023-24. No additional evaluation process, such as suitability test or interview is required for admission to the programmes in Admitting Institutes under JAM 2023.

  4. JAM 2023 scores are also used by JNCASR, IIPE, IISc, IISER Bhopal, IISER Pune for admission to postgraduate programmes.

  5. JAM 2023 Examination will be conducted over 100 Cities in India.


IIT JAM Economics 2023 Important Dates

Online Application for Examination - 7 September - 11 October, 2022

Download Admit Card - 10 January, 2023

Exam Date - 12 February, 2023

Result - 22 March, 2023

Online Application for Admission - 11 April - 25 April, 2023

IIT JAM 2023 Economics will be held on 12th February 2023 (Sunday).

IIT JAM Economics 2023 Test Schedule

IIT JAM 2023 will be held in two sessions as a Computer Based Test (CBT).

IIT JAM Economics - Afternoon on 12th February 2023 (Sunday) - 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm


IIT JAM Economics 2023 Paper Type

Completely Objective type, with three types of questions:

(i) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ),

(ii) Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and

(iii) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.


IIT JAM Economics 2023 Seats

DIRECT admission to approximately 3000 seats in various postgraduate programmes at IITs.


IIT JAM Economics Marking

In all sections, questions not attempted will result in zero mark.


In Section - A (MCQ), wrong answer will result in negative marks. For each wrong answer to 1-mark questions, 1/3 mark will be deducted and similarly for each wrong answer to 2-mark questions, 2/3 mark will be deducted.


In Section - B (MSQ), there are no negative and no partial marking provisions.


There is no negative marking in Section - C (NAT) as well.

All Others - ₹ 1800


Two Subjects

Female (All Categories) / SC / ST / PwD - ₹ 1250

All Others - ₹ 2500

IIT JAM Economics 2023 - Minimum Education Qualification


1. Essential subjects in Bachelor's Degree along with minimum duration


IIT Delhi - B.A./B.Sc./B.Com./ B.Stat./B.Math. /B.Tech /B.E. or equivalent with minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.


IIT Roorkee - B.Tech./B.E./ B.Sc. (Economics) /B.A.(Economics) / B.Sc.(Statistics)/BCA and B.Sc./B.A./ B.Com. with Mathematics as one of the subjects.


2. Essential subjects at (10+2) level

IIT Delhi - No Restrictions


IIT Roorkee - No Restrictions


IIT JAM Economics - Important Notes


A candidate can appear in either ONE or TWO Test Paper(s). However, a candidate can appear in two Test Papers only if these are not scheduled in the same session.
