What is Masters of Arts in Economics or MA Economics?



Master of Arts (MA) in Economics is a postgraduate program which is a two years long course. MA Economics course is divided into four semesters and is one of the top choices of students from arts stream. However, many students from other streams are also now pursuing Masters in Economics because of the immense demand of Economists across the globe in different domains.


It is because of this increased demand for economists, there is shift among students to Economics and now even the IITs have introduced M.Sc in Economics through IIT JAM Economics https://jam.iitr.ac.in/ and GATE Economics https://gate.iitkgp.ac.in/gate_syllabus.html .


MA Economics focuses on various topics of economics like macroeconomics, microeconomics, mathematics, statistics, econometrics, public economics, econometry, international economics, financial economics etc.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for Master of Arts (MA) in Economics is more or less the same for colleges and universities across the country. MA Economics is offered in different specialization like financial economics, applied economics, behavioral economics etc. The eligibility criteria include parameters like previous education qualification, entrance exam, interview and more.


Admission Process

The process for admission to Masters in Economics programmes is simple and completely depends upon the college you are aiming for. Some of institutions ask for their respective entrance exam, while others take admission based on the merit for the admission process.


In many institution, Masters in Economics admission is done through entrance exams that are conducted by colleges individually. Whereas, some of the colleges select students on the basis of their merit in graduation.
